A Cover Art Craze

The adventures in Indie publishing have already begun! Since I’m going to spend this year climbing up the learning curve, I feel it’s only right to share the journey with all of you.

For the authors out there, maybe it will give you some ideas for managing your own publishing process, or at least make you feel less alone when the struggle bus hits.

For the readers, I hope to give you an idea of what goes into being an Indie Author.

First step: new book covers all around.

I’ve found a really great cover artist for the Girl of Glass series. I love what she’s done for book one:

And she’s being really great about getting the other three covers done in time for the rapid book releases. And I mean RAPID. There’s going to be less than ninety days between the release of book one and book four. And then right after that, we’re diving into Bryant Adams.

When it came time for the original cover for Bryant Adams, I didn’t see an actual proof until the night before book release…yeah. With the super long title of How I Magically Messed Up My Life in Four Freakin’ Days, it was hard to settle on a concept that would work. I never got the chance to speak to the artist until the night before book release, so I’ve never been wholly comfortable with the cover. This time, I know exactly the concept I want, and come February, I am going to be shopping around to see which artists can bring that dream to life!

In other news, now that I’m running the show, I’ve been reading a ton more about brand messages and advertising options, basically all of the things that come with being a business. I’m having a huge amount of fun taking charge of my career. Though it does feel like every book I read leads to three more books that I should read. The realization that these aren’t finite topics and that I’ll never know all I need to know is a little daunting.

But the work will all be worth it. I’m currently reading Story Brand while the husband works on Mailing List Ninja. We make a pretty good team if I do say so myself.
