The Call of Other Voices

November 15, 2018

One of the hardest things about being an author (aside from the constant rejection, imposter syndrome, and dealing with an oversaturated market and constantly changing online economy) is writing the story you’re supposed to write.

My current project is supposed to be book three in The Tale of Bryant Adams series. I’m really excited about this story. I know where I want it to go, I have some great locations picked out for the action. I have little ties to old Easter eggs. It’s going to be great, and I love writing in Bryant’s voice.

But…

I really want to write a high fantasy from a female POV. I want her to climb through the mountains and learn how to kill people. I want her to have long hair and fight better in a dress than man do in pants, and have the confidence to walk into danger with a smile on her lips. I love her, and I want to write her story…

But…

That kind of fantasy is a hard sell, and I need to focus on Bryant. I love Bryant, I really do, but wind and fighting and horses.

And this is why I need to have deadlines to keep myself on track.

I’m going to write that girl’s story… just as soon as Bryant finishes his adventure.
